Choosing
a window that you know will be energy efficient can be
challenging. By choosing COMFORT LINE® SUNTARRA
ENERGY
STAR®qualified windows and gliding patio doors, you
wont have
to research the impact of your choice on your heating and
cooling
bills.COMFORT LINE has eliminated the guesswork by designing
and manufacturing all of SUNTARRA SUNROOM windows and
gliding patio doors to meet ENERGY STAR specifications.
When
you specify that you want your SUNTARRA SUNROOM windows
and gliding patio doors to include
ARGON GAS, you can be
assured that your new SUNTARRA SUNROOM will have ENERGY
STAR® qualified windows and doors that meet your energy
efficiency goals.
The
ENERGY STAR climate region
map that is applied to your
SUNTARRA windows and doors verifies that COMFORT LINE has
qualified the window for your region. The ENERGY STAR criteria
have optimized the choices for different climate patterns
in the
country. You can also be assured that an ENERGY STAR qualified
window meets or exceeds the building code in your state.
COMFORT
LINE SUNTARRA SUNROOM windows and doors with
Argon Gas added are ENERGY STAR qualified in all 50 states.
The ENERGY STAR criteria offer different combinations of
two
characteristics to optimize the right balance for different
heating
and cooling patterns in four major climate regions of the
country.
The two characteristics that you can look for are U-factor
and
Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC).
U-factor (sometimes referred
to as a U-Value) is a measure of heat
transfer through the window between your home and the outdoors.
A lower U-factor means you will lose less heat through the
window in
cooler months. COMFORT LINE windows and gliding patio doors
reduce
the U-factor through a combination of the glass and framing
materials.
Different types of inert gases can be inserted between the
panes to
reduce heat transfer even further. COMFORT LINE recommends
ARGON GAS for SUNTARRA SUNROOMS. The vinyl framing
material
coupled with COMFORT LINE engineering advances in the frame
design and other energy efficiency enhancements listed below
work
together to produce excellent U-values.
Double-glazed insulating
glass with a 7/8 optimum performance
air space.
Fully welded sash and
frame system
Thermally improved frame
design for energy efficiency
Interlocking meeting
rails
Positive Heavy-Duty
Cam Action Sash Locks
Full surround FinSealTM
Weather Stripping acts as sealing protection
from drafts, water, dust and noise
Meets or exceeds Energy
Star® qualification criteria when you
include argon gas in your specification
SHGC is a measure of how much heat builds up inside
as a result of
sunlight coming through the window; a lower SHGC means your
home
will stay cooler even when the sun is strong. SHGC is reduced
by
applying a microscopic layer of metallic coating filtering
selected
parts of the spectrum, including UV and infrared rays, from
penetrating
the window.
SUNTARRA SUNROOM windows and gliding patio doors include
as standard COMFORT LINE s advanced Low-E
glass,
COMFORT-SHIELD glass.
The
result is that visible light still comes through, allowing
the
SUNTARRA SUNROOM to be bright but without allowing excess
heat
buildup. Another key benefit of these coatings is that by
filtering
out some of the rays, fading of fabrics by UV light can
be reduced.
ENERGY
STAR qualified windows have been tested with an accredited
laboratory and the results are certified by the National
Fenestration
Rating Council, on a window label. The lab tests
provide the specific
results for each window.
ENERGY STAR helps you determine which combination of test
results
is best for your location.
Northern
Climate Region {Windows Criteria: Ž 0.35 U-factor}
In the Northern Climate region,
there are more extremely
cold than extremely hot days, and homeowners tend to
spend more on energy bills for heating than on cooling.
The ENERGY STAR criteria for windows, doors, and skylights
are established to allow for sunlight to help warm the home
and to minimize the transfer of heat from the home to the
outdoors. These criteria will help reduce heating requirements
in winter months.
North/Central Climate Region {Windows
Criteria: Ž0.40 U-factor;
Ž 0.55 SHGC}
The North/Central Climate region
is characterized by hot
and often humid summer weather and cold, although
usually not extreme, winter weather. In most cases,
homeowners in this region spend more to heat their
homes than to cool them. The ENERGY STAR criteria for
this region are designed to balance the heating and
cooling requirements of this varied climate. The criteria
help to limit the amount of heat transferred through the
window to the outside when it is cold out, and also limits
the mount of heat that can build up from the sun during
the hotter months.
South/Central
Climate Region { Ž 0.40 U-factor; Ž 0.40 SHGC}
In the South/Central Climate region,
homeowners encounter
hot, and often long summers, but also typically require
heating to stay comfortable during the winter. In most parts
of this region, homeowners use more energy to cool their
homes over the course of the year than to heat them.
The ENERGY STAR criteria for this region balance both the
heating and cooling needs by limiting both the heat lost
from the home when its cold outside, and the heat
that
can build up from the sun in hotter weather.
Southern Climate Region { Ž 0.65 U-factor;
Ž 0.40 SHGC}
The Southern Climate region includes
the extreme southern
states, characterized by long periods of hot and humid
weather and mild winters with limited periods when heating
may be required. The ENERGY STAR criteria for this region
are designed to minimize the heat buildup from the sun,
to keep a home cooler and more comfortable without
reducing the amount of light coming through the window.
